Edmonton Oilers
Starting in the World Hockey Association, the Oilers joined the NHL in 1979. They were unremarkable in their first few seasons, but forward, Wayne Gretzky stood out. He set new NHL records in 1980 recording 109 assists and 164 points. The young stud only improved becoming captain of the Oilers in 1983. In his first season leading the Oilers they finished first overall, winning 57 games, with Wayne setting an NHL record with points in 51 straight games. His team went on to win their First Stanley cup that year. Mark Messier won the Conn Smythe Tropy as playoff MVP. The Oilers would go on to win 5 Stanley Cups in 7 years. Their Dynasty would end on August 9th 1988 when Gretzky was traded to the LA Kings. They Oilers went into a decline; they received the first overall draft pick in 2010, 2011, and 2012, selecting Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Nail Yakupv respectively.
